On 16 May I presented at the Poetics of Collage conference, Centre for Creative Collaboration, University of London. The paper was entitled Fragmentation in the music of György Kurtág and was a version of a presentation I gave about a year ago. This was not a musicological conference, and I was the only presenter talking directly about music. This posses some difficulties, but the questions from such a group are always more unpredictable and I found people had fewer preconceptions.
I could only stay for the keynote and the first paper session, but some really interesting ideas about collage and fragmentation in visual art, film and music were already coming out. I was presenting in a session with Professor Patrik Sjöberg of Karlstad University and Rebecca Justice from the University of Birmingham.
