I’ve recently finished a North of England tour with Dark Inventions, which included the first performances of The Four Last Things.

Dark Inventions Firewheel Tour

The tour took us to the Engine House (Manchester), National Centre for Early Music (York), Left Bank (Leeds), The Lit & Phil (Newcastle) and the Capstone Theatre (Liverpool). Central to the tour was Philip Cashian’s Firewheel, which we commissioned with funding from the Britten-Pears Foundation and we also commissioned emerging composers based in or with a connection to the North of England:

Philip Cashian – Firewheel
Stef Conner – The Shipwrecked Ghost
Benjamin Gait – Three Inventions
Patrick John Jones – Uhtceare
Christopher Leedham – Möbius Sticks
Martin Scheuregger – The Four Last Things

Interspersed with these were mine and Chris Leedham’s arrangements of folk songs performed by the group with Stef Conner, including Come at Dawn and Death and the Lady.

We also featured on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune, talking about the group, the tour and our new EP and playing a live set of three folk songs and an extract from Firewheel.
